Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2025
Guage is a browser extension that tracks your Claude usage and helps you continue conversations in other AI tools. This page explains exactly what data Guage accesses, what it stores, and what it never does.
What Guage collects
Guage reads the following information from your browser session on claude.ai:
- Your current session usage percentage and message count
- Your weekly usage percentage
- The reset time for your Claude session
- The model you are currently using (e.g. Sonnet 4.6)
- The content of your active conversation, when you choose to export or continue it in another tool
All of this data stays on your device. It is never sent to any server, never collected by us, and never shared with anyone.
What Guage stores locally
Guage uses your browser's local storage to save:
- A history of recent usage readings (timestamp, model, percentage)
- Conversation context briefs you have exported, so you can reuse or re-copy them
This data is stored only in your browser using chrome.storage.local. It never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time by removing the extension or clearing your browser data.
What Guage does not do
- Does not collect your name, email, or any personal information
- Does not transmit any data to external servers
- Does not track your browsing activity outside of claude.ai
- Does not read your Claude conversations unless you explicitly click to export them
- Does not use analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting tools
- Does not sell, share, or monetise any data in any form
Permissions
Guage requests the following browser permissions:
- Host permission for claude.ai — required to read usage data from the page and inject the Guage bar into the interface
- storage — required to save recent readings and exported context briefs locally in your browser
- tabs — required to open the destination AI tool (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) in a new tab when you click a handoff button
No other permissions are requested or used.
Third-party services
When you click a destination button (ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, or DeepSeek), Guage opens that tool in a new tab and places your context brief into the input box. At that point, you are interacting directly with those services under their own privacy policies. Guage has no further involvement once the tab opens.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update the date at the top of this page and note the change in the extension's update log. We will never introduce data collection without clearly disclosing it here first.
